Chili Cheese Tots
A slightly healthier take on coney style chili cheese fries. Easy peasy and not too greasy.
Ingredients
-
frozen tater tots
-
a good drizzle of olive oil for the tots
-
a few violent shakes of taco truck spice on the tots
-
8oz can tomato sauce
-
1 packet chili seasoning
-
1/2 lb 85% ground turkey (in a TUBE)
-
1/2 lb ground turkey breakfast sausage (also in a TUBE)
- 8oz bag (or more, to taste) shredded cheese
Instructions
- Cook the chili stuff on medium until cooked through (~5 mins), stirring often. Break it down to Rudy’s tacomeat consistency. Lower heat and simmer until it’s saucy to your liking.
- drizzle the frozen tots with oil on a pan, toss with taco seasoning, and make as prescribed by package instructions.
- collect the tots into a close and even layer on the pan, top with the cooked chili stuff, and top with a disgusting amount of cheese. bake for 5 more minutes on the same temp as tot baking instructions.
- Let them cool slightly, but eat immediately so the tots don’t get mushy!
Notes
Pro tweaks:
- Add some diced onion and green bell peppers to the chili mix early on.
- Try adding a heaping tablespoon or two of refried beans to the mix.
- Try chicken chorizo instead of sausage.
- Toss some scrambled eggs on there before the cheese.
